Martin & Co. A Small Bronze Carriage Clock with solid silver engine turned dial
A lovely example by Martin & Co Regent Street and Drocourt Paris. The 8 day key wound movement being signed both Martin & Co. and also Drocourt with silvered lever escapement and numbered 20166 signed twice to the backplate and once internally, partially hidden by the wheelwork. The unusual solid silver dial and engine turned with plain spun chapter ring and engraved Roman numerals. With rectangular cartouche below signed, T Martin & Co 151 Regent Street W, with finely finished cut blued steel hands. The extremely well made bronze case in the finest tradition of Dent is almost certainly made by him or following his designs for some of his best clocks. ( See the Nickel silver giant carriage chronometers by Dent for this design) The thick bevel edged glasses to the top and sides with solid bronze lift out back door and simple front glass so as not to detract from the fine silver dial and silvered beveled frame.
