A Late 19th Century French Tortoiseshell Mantel Clock
The red tortoiseshell, waisted case with highly decorative cast mounts of asymmetrically scrolling pattern, topped by an urn shaped finial and having a hinged, circular bezel with convex, bevel-edged glasses. The 4.5 inch convex white enamel dial with Roman numerals, outer minutes chapter and Arabic five minute markers, Brocot regulation above '60' and blued steel hands. The French, eight day movement of typical high quality with anchor escapement, steel pendulum rod with brass bob, sounding the hours and half hours on a coiled blued steel gong.
