The silver and leather outer case with five joint hinge and pique design to the rear, the extremely fine inner case fully pierced and engraved, each section interspersed with floral decoration, the back centred by a rose and having apertures for the winding, together with a swivel pendant and loose ring bow. The gilt champleve dial with decoratively engraved border, silver chapter ring with engraved Roman hour numerals indicated by the fleur de lys pointer, the inner alarm disc with florally engraved centre and blued steel alarm hand. The gilt two train movement with fusee and gut three wheel train, pre-hairspring verge escapement, plain steel two arm balance, simple balance cock, turned baluster pillars, click set up to top plate, pierced and engraved alarm barrell with steel alarm wheels and engraved border to the back of the dial, the top plate bearing the signature, Fonnereau a la Rochelle.

Zacherie Fonnereau served his apprenticeship in Lyons between 1618 and 1626 before moving to La Rochelle where he was active from 1641.
