The gunmetal, open face case with snap on back and gold bow. The eccentric, small white enamel dial with Arabic chapter, outer minutes and delicate gold hands. The highly attractive engraved, visible tourbillon below having a fully jewelled lever escapement and a duration of approximately one minute.
The tourbillon is a rotating carriage on which the escapement is situated. It was invented by perhaps the world's greatest ever horologist, Abraham Louis Breguet (1747-1823) as a means of evening out 'positional errors' to the timekeeping of a watch caused by its movement when being worn. Due to its finess, the device is exceptionally hard to make, even today, and is considered by many to be the acme of the watchmaker's skill.
